Yesterday our class made our own Rekenrek’s with a piece of cardstock, beads, pipe cleaner and tape. I learned how to use this tool to use as a visual aid to assist those to work with their counting backwards and forwards, skip counting, what subitizing meant (Perceptual or Conceptual) and how story time can incorporate a Rekenrek.
This ties into today's lesson in which we learned about some teacher tools: TodaysMeet and youcubed. TodaysMeet is a website that allows students to ask their questions or make observations in a forum based discussion. Youcubed was another site we learned about which shows what an inquiry based math looks like. We also received our bag of math kit goodies from the University of Ottawa.
