Even though it is reading week- I trekked all the way to Nepean today to join my Assistant teacher (AT) at a Learning Connections Group meeting held by the Ottawa Catholic District School Board (OCDSB). I`ve never been to Nepean, by myself, previously. I rode on the double deck OC transpo bus today as well. I had many new experiences today. I managed to find the OCDSB, it was a little hectic but I managed!
We learnt about new pieces of technology supporting innovation. I shared the Makermobile information with my AT as she seemed really interested about learning more about it and trying to create a Makerspace.
We broke off into smaller groups. There was a green screen with puppets, a smaller green screen with lego and a table with MaKeyMaKey. MaKeyMaKey was such a neat piece of technology. We used this site. My AT and I connected the MaKeyMaKey to Marshmallows and Gummy Worms. The problem we ran into was that one of us was holding the ground and the other person was trying to get the other bit to work but the person holding the ground has to be the one to do it. We had such a fun time learning how to use the MaKeyMaKey. Gummy worms are more conductive than the marshmallows. Also we figured out we could attach more alligator clips to the ground area so another person could also be involved with the process as well.
I also learned about Pear Deck and the possible implementation in classroom involvement. And one last neat thing I learnt about was about the Dash and Dot Robots which allow kids to do simple programming to get these robots to move.
Overall really fantastic day with amazing people! I’m so glad and feel privileged enough to attended!
